Ozzie Guillen returns as manager of the Miami Marlins after serving a five game suspension for saying he loved and admired Fidel Castro. Many are still calling for his resignation.

Rooting to lose
Posted by JIM BLACK on March 30, 2012
Recently an executive with Goldman Sachs resigned publicly with an essay published in the New York Times. In it, Greg Smith accused his former employer of losing its “moral fiber” and putting profits ahead of customers’ interests. Why it made the national news in the first place would seem to ...

Not surprisingly, Goldman Sachs insists it has done nothing illegal. Although, immoral, unethical and possibly treasonous actions have not been addressed.

Trump, The Stump And The Chump
Posted by JIM BLACK on February 7, 2012
The truth is that over the many elections I've been eligible to vote in, I've never been thrilled by any of the choices for President, Republican or Democrat, because I believe ultimately there is little difference between them and that both are backed by, and represent a wealthy elite.

When The Gloves Come Off, Mitt Remains
Posted by JIM BLACK on January 18, 2012
It has been a brutal campaign to become the Republican nominee for President. Mitt Romney must be thinking “with rivals like these, who needs Democrats?”

Recall Walker?
Posted by JIM BLACK on December 6, 2011
I admit to being on the fence regarding the recall of Scott Walker, wondering if it would become a common tactic after every election.

Is Cain still Able?

We want our elected officials to be like one of us which is how they try and portray themselves when asking for our vote. Yet we expect them to be perfect human beings when none of us are.

For what it's worth: The Wall Street protests
Posted by JIM BLACK on October 12, 2011
The Occupy Wall Street protesters show up because they are angry at Wall Street for ruining the economy, and rather than being punished, it seems they are being rewarded. They show up because they have lost their jobs. They show up because they have just graduated and can't find a job and pay back their school loans. They show up because they can't afford health insurance. They show up because they can't get a loan for a house or a small business. They show up because they are making less money and the cost of living has gone up. Some show up to protest the protesters.

Forces of Nature
Posted by JIM BLACK on August 29, 2011
It was a rough week for the East Coast; first an earth quake than a hurricane. I suspect it was a failed attempt by Nature to swallow Washington D.C. in an earthquake and then wash away the stench with the hurricane. I could be wrong.

Straw polls and stripper poles
Posted by JIM BLACK on August 15, 2011
When did election season become a year 'round event? Was it when the Olympics went from every four years to every other year? Even though I have no vote or choice in the Wisconsin recall elections, I have not been able to escape the nasty campaign blitz of off-the-wall claims and statements made by endless commercials financed by anonymous donors. And there are more to come.

Sharing the Burden
Posted by JIM BLACK on July 18, 2011
Like so many others, over the last several years I've experienced pay cuts, reduced hours and a lay-off. I am currently employed and yes for the hundredth time, I'm grateful for that. But forgive me if I'm just a bit skeptical when it comes to who is shouldering their fair share.

The right choice
Posted by JIM BLACK on June 26, 2011
With all due respect to the bishops' concerns, it is highly unlikely that straight men and women in California, Vermont, New Hampshire and now New York will start marrying members of their own gender simply because it is legal to do so.

Feel safer?
Posted by JIM BLACK on June 19, 2011
Personally, I don't plan on carrying a gun. I hope that doesn't make me a target. Advocates of the law say it will make things more difficult for the bad guys since they won't know if a potential victim is carrying or not, so it may just deter them. I suppose...
