Do you plan to hike the entire length of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail in 2011 as it meanders through the Kettle Moraine State Forest? The DNR wants to publicize your accomplishment.
There are 30 miles of the trail in the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest, which stretches from County Highway C in Waukesha County, through Jefferson County and to Clover Valley Road in Walworth County.
During your hikes in 2011, take a digital photo along the trail of yourself or your group.
After you've completed the entire 30 miles, and take the photo to forest headquarters or send it via e-mail to amanda.prange@wi.gov along with the names, dates hiked and a summary of your adventures, favorite spots, etc.
The photos will be available for public viewing at the forest headquarters.
As long as you are hiking the 30 miles, you should consider registering for the “Kettle Trekker” program sponsored by the Walworth/Jefferson Co Chapter, Ice Age Trail Alliance.
A small fee covering expenses for the program will give you a beautiful patch when your adventure is completed.
By hiking just six-and-a-half miles farther you could become a Kettle Trekker. The Waukesha County chapter has a similar program called “Walk the Wauk.”
