Video: Delavan-Darien High School graduation
Live Video streaming by Ustream Share
DELAVAN — The Delavan-Darien School District will broadcast the Delavan-Darien High School graduation ceremony live online.
A link to the broadcast page will be available on the website and the live video feed will begin shortly before the ceremony, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 10, pending no technical difficulties.
“We wanted to give anyone the opportunity to witness our graduation ceremony, even those who can’t be there physically,” said Mike Heine, district coordinator of school-community relations. “This is a new venture for us, but if it works as we want it to, we’ll hopefully be able to broadcast the ceremony online again in the future.”
The district will film the planned outdoor ceremony at Borg Memorial Stadium with a web-ready camera and upload the live video to the Internet using a cellular Internet modem donated by U.S. Cellular.
The live stream will be broadcast through the free web-streaming service, Ustream.tv, and “fed” onto the district’s website where anyone interested can watch.
“Having the ceremony outside presented a unique set of challenges because there is no Internet connection point anywhere in the stadium,” Heine said. “U.S. Cellular has given us the ability to temporarily access a high-speed network using some of the latest wireless technology.”
If the graduation ceremony is inside due to weather, the district can broadcast to the Internet using its own hard-wired network.
The entire graduation footage will later be transferred onto DVDs, which will be made available to parents or students free of charge. It may also be archived online so viewers who don’t watch live can view the ceremony from a world away.
“We want to make our district as visible as possible in the community and beyond,” Heine said. “By using the technology available to us, we can share our student success stories like graduation with a much greater audience than those who fill the bleachers or auditorium seats in
