GENEVA TOWNSHIP — A suicidal man was shot and killed by at least one member of law enforcement this morning after the man shot himself and refused orders to keep his hands away from his gun, according to the Walworth County Sheriff's Office.
Police from the town of Geneva and Walworth County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home at N3095 Dandelion Road in Geneva Township about 6:20 a.m. after a landlord reported a suicidal man inside.
When officers and deputies arrived, they encountered the subject armed with a handgun, according to a sheriff's office news release.
The officers and deputies gave the subject verbal instructions to drop the gun, but he refused and instead shot himself two times in the abdomen before dropping the weapon.
Officers and deputies then ordered the man to keep his hands up, but he again refused and attempted to re-arm himself, according to the news release.
Two officers from the town of Geneva and one deputy fired their weapons at the subject.
Officers immediately rendered first aid and CPR.
Elkhorn Rescue and Delavan Rescue paramedics also arrived at the scene. Coroner John Griebel pronounced the subject dead at the scene at 8:23 a.m.

The deputy involved from the Walworth County Sheriff's Office is Scott Smith.
The officers and deputy are being placed on administrative duty pending review of this incident.
The coroner is not releasing the identity of the man pending notification of his family.
The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office will lead the investigation and the Walworth County Sheriff's Office is assisting with this officer-involved shooting.
