Video: Lyons residents threatens jury trial over parking ticket

LYONS -- Mark Schilling has parked in front of his house every night for the past two years without complaint. That was until last month, when he received a ticket for violating the community's parking ordinance.

More than just getting the ticket was the amount of the ticket: $124.50. Rather than fork over the fee, Schilling threatened to take the case to a jury trial.

He also called Fox 6 News Investigators, who interviewed Town Chairman William Mangold about the case.

It turns out that Lyons only gets $10 of the ticket, the rest is court costs, and those fees are determined by the state, because Lyons has no municipal court. Citations go straight to Walworth County Circuit Court.

Schilling's case has since been dropped. Mangold said the lawyer's fees wouldn't be worth it for the $10 they would receive.
