Is city too slow in battle against ash borer?
A comprehensive report in last Sunday’s Gazette reconfirms what we suspected: Janesville got caught with its ash trees exposed.
Worse, the city is moving far too slowly in its battle against the emerald ash borer, which will kill thousands of untreated ash trees across this community, and thus it’s failing to make up ground.
Reporter Marcia Nelesen shared views of experts around the Midwest. In many cases, they say, saving the trees is cheaper and better for the environment than removing them.
What more can and should Janesville be doing? We’ll share our perspectives in our editorial Sunday.
