The Elkhorn campus of Gateway Technical College located on County Highway H, south of the city.

It is part of a three-county educational institution. Walworth County first joined with the Kenosha County vocational district in 1968.

The first classes in Elkhorn began in the fall of 1970, including power mechanics, food service, hotel-motel management and drafting.

The first building on campus was dedicated May 16, 1971. It was a pre-engineering building. The Racine Technical Institute and the Kenosha Technical Institute merged in April, 1971 and the Walworth campus became a part of the three-county institution.

The campus continues to grow, both in the number of buildings and the number of class offerings for the students. Both two-year diplomas and associate degrees are offered. In addition, agreements have been established for transfers into four-year colleges.
