You’ll find the Landmark building in Elkhorn on West Walworth Street. According to a June 18, 1839, Milwaukee Journal article, this cream colored brick building is on the site of one of the early farms of the area.
The building originally was a restaurant that served luncheons and dinners. Lunch was served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
From 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., diners could get toast, cookies, cakes and tea. Dinner was served from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Kachel managed the restaurant that featured Southern fried chicken, according to the article.
The fieldstone gateposts remain, which marks the entrance to the property.
The fieldstone chimney, that matches the entrance, remains on the outside of the building that now is home to the Howarth law offices.
