This golf course and club are located on Krueger road off of Wisconsin Highway 120, north of Lake Geneva.
The 1857 Walworth County plat book indicates that J. Van Epps owned the property. In 1873, the property was divided. Part was owned by Wyman Spooner, Jr. and part by Harrison Rich.
The 1891 plat book shows the owner as H. Rich. Both the 1907 and 1930 books show John V. Seymore as the owner.
During the ’20s and ’30s, Helen McDonald ran a farm on the property, which included large storage buildings that held ice cut from Geneva Lake. In 1949, Ed Meltzer and his brothers, Phil and Harold, bought the property. They, too, ran it as a farm.
In 1960, Meltzer built the Mount Fuji Ski Hill. It had 12 runs and used tow ropes and T-bars to get skiers to the top.
During summer months, concerts were held on the grounds. Meltzer had as may as 20,000 people come to see entertainers like Jerry Lee Lewis, the Buckinghams, The Ides of March and Paul Revere and the Raiders. The ski hill remained in operation until 1970.
In 1990, Meltzer sold the property to the Kennedy Group. They ran it as Long Horn Ranch until 1994. Then, in 1997, Dan and Sue Daniels bought the property, along with six other parcels. That made up the 314 acres, which is now Hawk’s View Golf Club.
In 1998, Craig Schreiner, a Kansas City golf course architect, was hired to design the 36-hole complex. Landscapes Unlimited was hired a general contractor. The courses were completed in October 2000, and the club opened the following spring.
The complex includes a lodge, which has indoor banquet seating for 350 and an outdoor terrace that can seat 400 people. In addition to all the usual amenities for a golf club, it also has a 15-passenger bus to transport customers and wedding guests.
