The small body of water in the Big Foot Beach State Park, called Ceylon Lagoon, is a replica of Geneva Lake.

This man-made lagoon, which you can see from South Lake Shore Drive, was part of the F.L. Maytag estate.

Maytag’s estate encompassed part of Big Foot Beach State Park and the Lake Geneva Youth Camp.

The Sunnyside Land Co. owned the swampy area on the east end of Geneva Lake and sold it to Maytag.

Maytag drained the land and created the pond as a replica of the lake on a scale of 1,000 to 1.

He had plans to make a park for Linn Township right next to it, but he died before the project was completed. The property was passed down to his two sons, and remained in the family for 20 years.

The Lake Geneva Youth Camp is on the site of the former Ceylon Court Farm, which was a Model 3 farm that raised prize-winning animals.

The buildings were converted to sleeping quarters, meeting rooms and other rooms for camp.
