From now through the end of the year, look to the Big event blog every Friday for opportunities to give and share in our communities.

Agencies that need help over the holidays should send info to Lynn Greene, lgreene@communityshoppers.com. Include name of the drive, collection sites, items needed and dates to donate.

Fall Food Drive, Oct. 29 - Nov. 21: Bring a minimum of three nonperishable food items to be entered in a drawing to win a Phillips Sonicare toothbrush. Especially needed: peanut butter, canned meats for the Walworth County Resource Center and Food Pantry. Deliver to Whitewater Family Dentistry, 301 W. Main St., Whitewater.

Help Hurricane Sandy victims: Bring your donations to the old Hallmark storefront, next to Frank’s Piggly Wiggly, 58 W. Market St., Elkhorn from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 10-11 and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 15-16. Items will be collected by the Elkhorn Lions Club and distributed by the New Jersey area Lions Clubs. Items needed: nonperishible food, water, diapers, household cleaning supplies, new and gently used clothing, toys and games, blankets, cash donations.

Collection for Vets, Nov. 12: Generic sweatshirts, mens/womens up to size 3XL; children’s clothing from 4 to 18; hats, scarves and mittens; wallets; Barbie and baby dolls; cars and trucks; small and medium stuffed animals; Boys and girls games for ages 8-16; afghans, bathroom towel sets and kitchen towel sets. Drop off items on Nov. 12 at the American Legion Hall, 111 S. Second St., Delavan. If you need to drop off sooner, call Connie at (262) 728-3520.

Operation Burlington Cares food drive, Nov. 16 to Dec. 31: Burlington wants to make sure their neighbors have food on their table. Help stock the shelves at Love Inc. by dropping off your donations at the Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce, city or town of Burlington administration office or at Love Inc. (262) 763-6044.

Coat and money drive, through Nov. 18: New or gently worn, cleaned coats or jackets and monetary donations collected for Native Americans in South Dakota. Bruce Hansen, of Elkhorn, has been delivering coats and donations to the reservations in the Dakotas for 13 years. Drop off your donations to the UU Church of the Lakes, 319 N. Broad St., Elkhorn or contact Hansen at (262) 903-0869 or hansen@elknet.net.

Thanksgiving meal donations needed: The Elks provide a free Thanksgiving dinner for anyone who needs it or is alone on Nov. 22. Donations of frozen turkey, prepared pies, canned yams, cranberry sauce, bagged sage stuffing, butter, cash or grocery cards to Piggly Wiggly are needed. Mitten (and hats and scarves) drive, through Nov. 26: The Page Turners book club of Matheson Memorial Library are collecting hats, mittens and scarves for babies, kids, teens and adults at the library, 101 N. Wisconsin St., Elkhorn. The items will be distributed through the Elkhorn Area School District and the St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church.

The Walworth County Sunday News food and toy drive now is collecting donations of unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 14. In past years, donations have gone to local groups such as the Twin Oaks Homeless Shelter in Darien. Donations can be dropped off weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the CSI Media office of Walworth County Sunday located at 120 Wright St., Delavan. For more information call (262) 728-3424.

Walworth-Fontana Rotary Club collecting donations for Food Basket Distribution project: This year the club is in need of a $50 sponsorship for each basket. Make checks payable to Walworth-Fontana Rotary Foundation Inc., PO Box 368, Walworth WI 53184. Holiday Care program collection of new toys and clothing for children and money to purchase gift certificates for food, ongoing: Last year, this program served 637 families with 1,105 children. Support our troops, ongoing: The Support Our Troops Committee/ American Legion is looking for donations of baseball/softball gloves and balls to be sent to troops with ties to Walworth County who are deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
