Placement is not automatically given to the mother. My brother just got primary placement of his kids in spite of a long battle by his ex to keep them. He proved to be the more stable home. That means she will have to pay support to him.
Also, 50-50 placement is rarely in the best interest of the child and is next to impossible when the parents live in 2 different school districts.
Even if the parents are in the same district, the child should not be paying for the parents' bad decisions by being moved back and forth and back and forth so they hardly know where they belong (as with 50-50 placement). I have seen this with kids in my classrooms and it is very hard for the child to adjust to a life like that. Let's put the kids needs first. None of this is their fault.
