Janesville's Dale White has turned his passion for woodworking into a business.
Rough cut wood stands stacked in Dale White’s woodworking shop. When he retired from the Janesville GM plant after 30 years, the Janesville craftsman decided to try his hand at building custom rocking chairs. Despite not knowing how to build the chairs when he started out last fall, White has since built seven.

Dale White hand-rubs oil on one of two custom rocking chairs he is donating to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for a fundraising auction in Reno, Nev. The Janesville man has turned his passion for woodworking into a business, Wood Rocks!, that produces chairs he refers to as 'very comfortable art' and 'eye candy' for any home. The chairs, each with unique tails on the rockers, are autographed and sell for $3,000 to $4,000, depending upon the size, which White says is critical for comfort.
