Three in race for two Darien Town Board seats
DARIEN Three candidates—incumbents Dale Wheelock and Daniel Kilkenny and newcomer Daniel Boss—are seeking two seats on the Darien Town Board.
Dale Wheelock (I)
Address: N4692 Highway 89, Delavan.
Education: High school graduate
Community service: Member of the town plan commission, chairman for both park and recreation commissions, recycling officer, cofounder and co-general leader of Harvesters 4-H, vice chairman of the Walworth County Fair Fur and Feather Sale committee and a key leader for poultry at the Walworth County Fair.
Elected posts: Darien Town Board, 2011 to present.
Major campaign issues: “The major issue is the joint town/village EMS and fire department. Under new leadership, they both are coming into the 21st century with websites, new billing procedures and updates to both boards. They do need a new station. The town is able to afford its portion. The village of Darien, however, is having difficulty with its part. I am against the town paying for the total cost of a new station, but I could support a loan to the village as long as the interest is the same as we get on our other investments.”
Daniel Kilkenny (I)
Address: N3616 Elm Ridge Road, Delavan.
Job: Attorney with a general practice in Delavan since 1982
Education: Graduated from Delavan-Darien High School in 1974, received a bachelor’s degree in economics from UW-Madison in 1978 and received a law degree from UW-Madison in 1982.
Community service: Secretary/treasurer and trustee of the Delavan Cemetery Association from 1984 to present, president of the Walworth County Cemetery Association from 1993 to present, director of the Land Trust of Walworth County from 2005-09, past secretary/treasurer of the Walworth County Bar Association, sponsored and coached Delavan recreation youth baseball teams.
Elected posts: Walworth County Board supervisor from 2006 to present, vice chairman of the Walworth County board from 2010 to present, Darien Town Board supervisor from 2001 to present, co-chairman of the Town of Darien Plan Commission from 2005 to present, Delavan Lake Sanitary District commissioner from 1991-92.
Major campaign issues: “I want to maintain Darien’s position as Walworth County’s lowest-taxed jurisdiction. We must manage the taxpayers’ money and our fees from the landfill wisely so that we can have low taxes for the long-term future and also maintain a high quality of life for our residents.”
Address: W8667 R-D Townline Road, Delavan.
Job: Owner of Boss Enterprises Inc., an excavating and gravel pit business
Education: Graduated from Delavan-Darien High School in 1970, completed an operating engineers apprenticeship in 1977 and received a master restricted plumbing license in 1978.
Elected posts: Walworth County Board from 1991-92, Darien Town Board from 2006-11, Darien Fire Department for more than 20 years.
Major campaign issues: “My expertise is in public works and the fire department. Both entities have issues that will have to be dealt with in the near future. My qualification is common sense for the people of the town of Darien.”
