— The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater student enrollment for fall 2012 is a record 12,034 students. That’s up from 11,615 students in fall 2011, and 11,557 in fall 2010.

Chancellor Richard Telfer said campus efforts to improve student retention and accept more transfer students contributed to the record enrollment.

“Course offerings at UW-Whitewater continue to evolve as well, as we prepare our students to become global citizens,” Telfer said. New majors for this year include international business, computer science, environmental science and Japanese, bringing the total number of undergraduate academic programs to 52.

Students involved in extracurricular activities continue to excel. Five athletic teams - football, men’s basketball, gymnastics and men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball - won national championships last year. Student organizations, including the American Marketing Association, Pi Sigma Epsilon and Collegiate Entrepreneurs' Organization, took first-place honors at their national conferences.
