Madison Memorial earns Big Eight golf title

EVANSVILLE — Janesville Parker finished fifth in the Big Eight Conference girls golf meet Thursday at Evansville Country Club.

Madison Memorial won the Big Eight title behind Robyn Blanchard's medalist round of 7-over-par 79 en route to a 350 team total. Middleton finished second at 370.

Taylor Wyss carded an 83 to lead the Vikings and Micayla Richards added a 92, but Parker could not file another round less than 100.

"Our No. 3 and No. 4 (players) struggled," Parker coach Mary Ross said. "There were some swing issues.''

On the positive side for Parker, Wyss and Richards had top-10 individual finishes, taking fourth and ninth place, respectively.

Craig posted a 409 team score for seventh in the 11-team field. Haley Arneson and Ashley Hermanns carded 93 and 96, respectively, to lead the Cougars.

Parker and Craig compete Tuesday in the WIAA regional at Riverside Golf Course. Milton, which finished second in the 2011 state meet, Lake Geneva Badger, Burlington, Elkhorn, Fort Atkinson and Beloit Memorial are also in the field.
