— Janesville police think a reported "grabbing" of a 12-year-old girl was an isolated incident.

After several days of talking to residents, police did not find anyone who saw or heard what happened before a 12-year-old girl told police that a man grabbed her, Detective Erik Goth said.

Police did find some people who said they saw a man who matched the girl's description, Goth said.

The Franklin Middle School student said a man grabbed her from behind at 8:15 a.m. Sept. 11 on Elizabeth Street, according to a news release from the Janesville Police Department. The man ran off when a car drove by, she said.

Police spent several days in the neighborhood talking to residents, Goth said. Police did not find anyone who matches the man described by the girl.

"We stopped at everybody's house," Goth said.

In the meantime, investigators have not gotten reports of any similar incidents.

"From all respects, this appears to be an isolated incident," Goth said. "In fact, it's the only one of its sort that we've had in a long time."

The investigation remains open.
