Three recommended as principals in Janesville
The promotions would come with annual pay increases averaging $13,696.
The promotions also reflect the job that Superintendent Karen Schulte believes the three have done this year at Harrison, Kennedy and Van Buren elementary schools.
All three are finishing up their first years running schools. Their current titles are "building coordinator," positions created last year to save money.
District officials have been saying they face a similarly difficult budget year in 2012-13, but Schulte said the promotions are a good idea.
"They are professionals and could go somewhere else and get higher wages," Schulte told The Gazette.
"We need to pay similar to what other people are making in the area and the region. Plus, we want to attract the best people and keep them, and these people have been doing a great job," Schulte said.
The board's policy, personnel and curriculum committee voted unanimously Tuesday to recommend the promotions to the full board. The recommended promotions are for:
-- Allison DeGraaf, Kennedy Elementary School. She has worked in the district since 1991, first as a kindergarten teacher and then a learning-support teacher. She holds a master's degree in curriculum and instruction.
DeGraaf's current salary is $81,645.
-- Jessica Grandt-Turke, Harrison Elementary School. She has worked as a social worker in Monona, Lake Geneva and Janesville elementary schools, starting in 1997. She holds three master's degrees, in social work, education and educational leadership.
Grandt-Turke's current salary is $70,409.
-- Stephanie Pajerski, Van Buren Elementary School. Pajerski was a kindergarten teacher in Janesville from 1996 to 2011. She holds a master's degree in educational leadership.
Pajerski's current salary is $76,781.
All three would receive annual salaries of $89,974 if the school board confirms the recommendations.
