Local doubles teams advance
Parker High advanced a pair of doubles teams and Craig advanced a doubles team out of the Burlington sub-sectional boys tennis meet Monday.
The Vikings’ No. 1 tandem of Nick Garey and Austin McDonald defeated Beloit Memorial’s Brad Oestrich and Javar Thomas, 6-4, 6-0 to earn a shot at a Division 1 state tournament berth. Parker’s No. 3 doubles pair of Jaren Norrell and Spencer Debroux defeated Craig’s Adam Masters and Ross Sroda, 7-5, 6-7, (0), 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
“We had some good things happen today,” Parker coach Mike Fuhrmann said. “It was a highlight on the season to finish strong in doubles.’’
Meanwhile, Craig seniors Zack Hardin and Joe Worple advanced at No. 2 doubles with a victory over Lake Geneva Badger. The pair can qualify for state with two wins at the Lake Geneva Badger sectional Wednesday.
Hardin and Worple are 16-7 and coach Justin Long thinks the pair can muster enough momentum to win two sectional matches.
“Zack and Joe have done it for us all year long,” Long said. “They’ve played good competition and beat good competition. I feel great about Wednesday.’’
Burlington scored 22 points and advanced its entire team to Wednesday’s sectional at Lake Geneva Badger. Parker posted 10 points and Craig eight points.
At the Division 2 Jefferson sub-sectional, Edgerton’s No. 3 doubles team of Jared Dewar and Justin Smith advanced, and Walworth Big Foot’s Adam Kolnik and Sebastian Lauterbach won at No. 1 singles to earn a chance for state berth Wednesday at the Whitewater sectional.
