Owen-Withee holds on, other tournament scores

Owen-Withee righted the ship just in time.


The Blackhawks went from 15 points ahead in the first half to three down in the fourth quarter but scored on five of their final seven possessions to score a 49-46 victory over two-time defending champion Wausau Newman in a Division 5 semifinal game of the WIAA girls state basketball tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison.


Junior forward Aleyna Goerlitz finished with 22 points and 16 rebounds for Owen-Withee, which improved to 25-3. Owen-Withee plays Heritage Christian (23-4) in Saturday’s title game at 11:05 a.m. Saturday.


Senior guard Alyssa Gordon added 11 points in the victory.


Senior guard Sarah Connolly led Newman (25-2) with 15 points. Senior center Grace Kennedy added 10 points and 10 rebounds.


-- Heritage Christian 50, Seneca 41—Junior guard Moriah Begin had 15 points and four assists for the Patriots (23-4), while sophomore guard Ramiyah Bennett added 14 points and three assists.


Seneca (26-1) got 14 points from senior forward Kalli Boland.


Heritage set the tone early.


The Patriots made nine of 11 shots in the first quarter in racing to a 22-8 lead.


Begin had nine in the quarter, completing a four-point play two minutes into the game that gave Heritage an 8-5 lead.


Division 4

-- Oshkosh Lourdes 70, Eau Claire Regis 63 (OT)—The Lady Knights rallied from a 15-point first-half deficit behind 22 points from Lexy Peterman and 20 from Maddy Reed.


Regis sent the game into overtime on Heather Bowe’s three-pointer as time expired in regulation. Bowe finished with a game-high 32 points.


Lourdes (26-1) plays Neillsville (27-0) in Saturday’s title game.


-- Neillsville 53, Howards Grove 41—The Warriors (27-0), behind 14 points each from Jenny Lindner and Katelyn Crothers, remained unbeaten with the semifinal win.


Neillsville pulled away in the second half, outscoring Howards Grove (25-2) 34-22.


Alexis Lindstrom had 13 points to lead the Tigers.
