GENEVA, ILL. — The Beloit Snappers stranded 11 base runners en route to a 3-1 loss to the Kane County Cougars to wrap up a three-game set Wednesday afternoon in Midwest League baseball.
Kane County scored two unearned runs in the fifth inning and added an insurance run in the eighth to seal the victory. The Cougars scored in the fifth on a single, wild pitch, third baseman David Bryant’s throwing error, a bases-loaded double play and a double.
The Snappers scored their run on Bryant’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.
Beloit was held to six hits and left runners in scoring position with two outs four times.
Snappers’ starter David Hurlbut (3-1) took the loss, allowing six hits and striking out six through six innings.
Beloit opens a three-game series at 7 tonight with Clinton at Pohlman Field.
