Milton girls avoid upset, other scores

— Milton High School escaped upset-minded Oregon with a 54-47 victory Monday in Badger South Conference girls basketball.

The victory lifts Milton to 6-2 in the Badger South and 9-5 overall. Oregon falls to 2-6 and 3-11.


The Red Hawks trailed 30-29 at the half and the game went into the fourth quarter tied, 40-40.


The game see-sawed until midway through the fourth quarter when Milton pulled away. Ali Grishow and Morgan Blumer scored four points each in the fourth quarter for Milton.


Blumer finished with 24 points, scoring seven in the first quarter and eight in the third. Sydney Harms added 11 points for Milton. Maddy Gits scored 13 points for Oregon before fouling out.

Southern Lakes girls

-- Union Grove 57, Badger 49—The Badgers lost a nine-point first-quarter lead to the Broncos in a Southern Lakes Conference matchup.


After posting a 15-6 advantage, Union Grove cut Badger’s lead to 30-26 at the half. The Broncos took a 14-7 advantage in the third quarter for a 40-35 lead.


Liberty Wieseman scored 19 points for Badger to take scoring honors. Teammate Karina Reeves added 14 points and Emma Kopp chipped in 11 points.


Jordan Weidner scored 16 points, including eight in the fourth quarter for Union Grove. Kassidy Wilks added 11 points, and Katie Wendorf scored 10 points.

Nonconference boys

-- Walworth Big Foot 50, Williams Bay 48—Kenneth Walker scored a game-high 17 points, and Bryan Colby sank two key free throws with 10 seconds left to help send Walworth Big Foot to a nonconference victory.


Big Foot (3-12) made 10 of 13 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter to overcome a seven-point deficit after three quarters. Williams Bay made just one of six from the line in the final period.


Lawrence Crement scored 16 points, and John Higgins added 14 for Williams Bay

Parkview improved to 3-13 overall, while Albany fell to


6-9.


Charlie Kyser and Larry Thole scored six points apiece in the first quarter to lift Parkview to a 21-13 first-quarter lead. The Vikings gained a 14-6 second-quarter advantage for the 17-point halftime lead.


Thole finished with 16 points for Parkview. Isaiah Shell scored 15 points for Albany.

-- Clinton 73, Cambridge 53—Cody Risseeuw scored 20 points, and Justin Langley added 17 as the Cougars routed the Bluejays in nonconference boys basketball.


Cambridge held an 18-12 first-quarter lead, but Clinton gained an 18-8 advantage in the second quarter to take a 28-26 lead at the half. The Cougars pulled away with a 26-12 advantage in the third quarter for a 54-38 lead.


Risseeuw scored eight points and Aaron Roth scored seven of his 11 points to lead Clinton in the third quarter. Langley scored 11 points in the fourth quarter to held Clinton seal the victory.
