Those figures from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources equal 6.2 pounds per resident, one of the highest rates among states with such legislation.
The program recycled 10.4 million pounds from Jan. 1 through June 30, 2010 -- it’s set up to coincide with the state’s fiscal year -- and based on information submitted by registered manufacturers, the total e-cycling target for program year 3 (July 2011 through June 2012) is about 31 million pounds.
“The increased volume of electronics is helping recyclers expand while reducing costs for local governments and taxpayers,” said Brad Wolbert, solid waste and recycling specialist in the DNR waste and materials management program. “E-Cycle Wisconsin is boosting the economy without a large government footprint.”
