Dungeon and Dragons fans get to rewrite the rules
LAKE GENEVA Dungeon Masters are getting a little more say in how the game is played.
Wizards of the Coast, the Hasbro subsidy that owns Dungeons and Dragons -- the role-playing game that began in Lake Geneva -- is redesigning the game with fans' and players' input.
According to a story on Time's website, the reboot is the first time the rules were changed since 2008. Those changes drew criticism from hardcore fans, so developers are hoping those same fans are more than willing to craft the new version.
Dungeons and Dragons, the first-commercially published role-playing game lends itself to collaboration. Players, who can be wizards, orcs and archers, battle monsters under the direction of a Dungeon Master.
Since its inception in 1974, however, the game has lost some ground to newer online games, such as World of Warcraft, so developers are hoping the changes will generate new fans.
