The fact that there are no signs at the trailheads is very true. Also that the guy shooting at nothing shouldnt be shooting at something he cant identify is true as well. The rule of thumb is "Be sure of your target, and whats beyond." Wich indeed the blaze orange man did not remember, but in a case of self defense, the man was probobly scared and acting on instinct rather than reason. I would most likely be the same way in the situation. But lets get back to hunting in the Kettle. The state is not required to post hunting dates or warnings anywhere. It is the responsibility of the individual walking into the woods, to know the local laws and regulations. However, most of the areas that I hunt in the Kettle have signs stating that they are public hunting grounds, and that should serve as enough of a warning to anyone venturing into the area. But as for a vote, I think those who would like to ban hunting in the Kettle Moraine State Forests would be greatly outnumbered by the 99% of Wisconsin residents who hunt every year and have done so for many generations. This is Wisconsin. The greatest state in the Union, and its not because of cheese and corn.

"First of all, how is one supposed to see another man, if he is in the densely wooded forests of kettle moraine while wearing full camoflauge? You wonder why there is no description, well thats because obviously he didnt see him."
So the guy in blaze orange shot his 30.06 rifle at someone or something he couldn't see? If you think the guy in blaze orange is that dumb, he should not be allowed to carry a firearm. Hunter training emphasizes the fact that you NEVER shoot at anything you can't identify. Also few trailheads in the Kettle Moraine lower unit have any type of sign warning that hunters may be present in the area. Besides, there are far more hikers than hunters in Kettle Moraine. Lets put the ban on hunting to a vote.

First of all, how is one supposed to see another man, if he is in the densely wooded forests of kettle moraine while wearing full camoflauge? You wonder why there is no description, well thats because obviously he didnt see him. More than likely he shot in the general dirtection of the initial shot. Also it seems unlikely that the shooter is an madman shooting at whoever walked in his path, being that there was only one shot at one person. Personally, I think they need to speak with the victems wife or anyone who might pay to have him killed. Now for the banning of hunting in kettle moraine. Why would you want to limit the area just for the FIBS that are crying about Bambi? We have a serious issue with CWD in this part of the state and the only way to help fix it, is to harvest as many deer as possible. Ive hunted the Kettle many times, and the dumbest thing ive ever seen is hikers out there, not wearing blaze orange. Personally I think we should Ban HIKING in kettle moraine from November to January.

Surely the man in orange must have clearly seen the individual who shot at him so why isn't there a better description given of the hunter who fired the first shot other than he was dressed in camouflage? I would certainly hope that if a person intentionally aims and fires his 30.06 at another individual, he is darn sure the shots fired near him were intentional and not accidental. Great, so now its too dangerous for me to hike in the Kettle Moraine because there are guys shooting at each other. Another reason to ban hunting in the Kettle Moraine.

As a hunter, I am disappointed in writers who find it necessary to call a mad man with a hand gun a hunter... Shame on you!
