— A LaFayette Township man faces a felony burglary charge after investigators say he broke into the People's Bank branch on County Highway A north of Elkhorn in early December.

Austin Bray, 21, is accused of breaking the window of the bank Dec. 11 during an unsuccessful burglary attempt, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Walworth County District Attorney's office. Bray made his initial court appearance Dec. 27. He has since been released on a $10,000 signature bond.

According to the complaint, surveillance video shows that about 3 a.m. someone broke the window, entered the bank and attempted to open the safe.

During a subsequent interview with authorities, Bray admitted breaking the window, but denied he intended to steal anything, according to the complaint.

Bray faces a 12-year, six-month prison sentence, along with a $25,000 fine if convicted of the felony charge. He also is charged with misdemeanor criminal damage to property.

Bray is expected back in court Jan. 23 for a preliminary hearing.
