— Tonight’s meeting for Richmond’s School District 157 will include discussion on recently submitted bids for a 38,300-square-foot high school gym expansion at Richmond-Burton Community High School, estimated to cost the district about $5.5 million, according to a story by Jane Huh of the Northwest Herald.

The story said the board may also award a contract for the project at the meeting as well.

Parents of students in the district and area residents are questioning the project’s need and cost at a time of budget cuts elsewhere. But school district officials say the expansion has long been needed since the current high school facility was built in 2000, and the district has been saving for the project through its building fund for over 10 years.
