The University of Wisconsin women’s basketball team turned the Paige on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Morgan Paige scored a career-high 29 points for Wisconsin, including 18 in the second half, to lead the Badgers to a 72-60 win over Illinois in a Big Ten Conference game at the Kohl Center. UW junior Taylor Wurtz tallied her second straight double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

The Badgers shot 64 percent from the field in the second half and had only six turnovers in improving to 9-19 overall and 5-11 in the Big Ten.

“Well, we’re pretty happy. We’re very excited for the win, “Wisconsin coach Bobbie Kelsey said. “Morgan and Taylor really showed up in big ways.

“Obviously for the seniors, it’s a very good win for us, to go out in the Kohl, in front of our fans and to give them something to remember.”

An 18-4 Badger run early in the second half proved to be the difference. Wisconsin held Illinois (11-18 overall, 5-11 Big Ten) scoreless for nearly five minutes until Adrienne GodBold made a jumper with 3:39 on the clock to make it 66-55.

“The light came on, sometimes it’s a dimmer not too bright,” Kelsey said. “We have really been working on boxing out. I think the kids now understand how important ball security and having more possessions and opportunities.”
