— Home sales up, prices down: January home sales in Walworth County were up only slightly this year over 2011, with 63 sales this January compared to 62 sales last year. The latest statistics released from the Wisconsin Realtors Association also show that the median price in Walworth County was $125,880 in January, down from $141,500 in January 2011.

Statewide, there were 2,862 sales in January, compared to 2,584 sales in January 2011, an increase of 10.8 percent. Median prices were down, though, from $128,508 in January 2011 to $119,500 this January.

“Last year, just over 5 percent of home sales took place in January, which is about right for what is usually the slowest month of the year for sales volume,” said Rob Keefe, chairman of the Wisconsin Realtors Association Board of Directors. “While we don’t want to draw too many conclusions from strong January sales figures, it is encouraging to see some of the strong growth patterns of the last three months continue into 2012.”
