Clinton survives senior’s big night, other scores

Tate Harnack tried to spoil the Rock Valley South title celebration for Clinton High’s boys basketball team Tuesday night.


The Brodhead senior poured in a career-high 39 points, including an 11-for-12 performance at the free-throw line.


Unfortunately for Harnack, the Cougars’ balanced attack was too tough to overcome.


Justin Langley had 26 points to lead three Clinton players in double figures as the Cougars held on for a 69-66 Rock Valley South win.


Clinton (20-1, 14-1) led by five at half and maintained the lead the entire second half.


The two teams combined to make 29 of 33 free throws.

Larry Kyser had 16 points to lead Parkview, while Charlie Thole added 13.


Tyler Troiola paced Palmyra-Eagle with 13 points.

-- Turner 62, Big Foot 61—Turner overcame a four-point deficit entering the final quarter to edge visiting Big Foot.


Sam Burns led the Trojans in scoring with 20 points. Jeff Bass added 17 points, eight rebounds and had three blocked shots as Turner improved to 6-9 in the Rock Valley South and 9-12 overall.


Anthony Payton added 10 points for the winners.


Kenneth Walker had 15 points and three steals for the Chiefs, who fell to 3-12 in the RVC and 4-17 overall. Jake Wedig added 11 points before fouling out.

Army recruit Tanner Plomb added 13 points for East Troy (19-2, 15-0), while Nate Dodge chipped in 12. The Trojans led 38-26 at half before pulling away with a 19-8 advantage in the third.
