Elkhorn cruises past Whitewater, other scores

Elkhorn High notched its seventh win in its last nine games Monday with a 56-36 victory over visiting Whitewater in nonconference boys basketball.


The Elks (11-9) held the Whippets (5-14) to single digits in the first half for a 26-16 lead at halftime. Whitewater cut the deficit to 37-29 after three quarters, but the Elks gained a 19-7 advantage in the fourth quarter to ensure the victory.


Brent Newman scored 14 points, Danny Dessent added 12, and Matt Smith chipped in 10 points for the Elks. Austin Morkved scored 13 points for Whitewater.

Jesse DeLorme scored 15 points, Trent Jordan added 13, and Jacob Johnson posted had 12 to pace Brodhead (13-6) to the nonconference win. Monticello drops to 11-8 on the season.

27-10, in the fourth quarter to seal the nonconference victory. Turner trailed, 51-45, after three quarters.


Sam Burns scored 24 points to lead Turner, but was the only Trojan to reach double figures. Cameron Ward scored 24 points to lead three Cardinals in double figures.
