— Lakeland Animal Shelter will be hosting its first public art event later this year, according to the organization’s Facebook page. “They Don’t Need a Castle” is the name of the event featuring fiberglass dogs and cats to be decorated by local artists and on display for public enjoyment around the area. The art will later be auctioned at Lakeland’s “Sip & Purr” wine tasting in November.

Lakeland is currently looking for sponsors for the fiberglass pieces, and artists’ proposals for the art. Pick up a “They Don’t Need a Castle” brochure at the shelter or at one of their community display locations: Pampered Pup, U.S. Bank in Delavan, Caribou Coffee, The Cornerstone Shop or the Elkhorn Veterinary Clinic.

For further information on the project, call the shelter at (262) 723-1000 or e-mail Kristen at kperry@lakelandanimalshelter.org.
