MUKWONAGO Twenty-seven years ago, eight quilters got together and formed the Crazy Quilters’ Quilt Guild of Mukwonago. The guild held its first quilt show in April 1988. Twenty-five years later, the annual Crazy Quilters’ Quilt Show remains an anticipated event for quilters in southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
This year’s theme is “Still Flying High After 25 Years” and will feature a special showing of quilts that incorporate the Flying Geese pattern.
Special anniversary events include a presentation by Jennifer Chiaverini, author of the Elm Creek Quilts series. Certified judge and quilt appraiser Carol Butzke will present a lecture on Friendship and Album Quilts. A representative from Frank’s Sewing Center in Waukesha will give a presentation on sewing machine maintenance.
Daily bed turnings of the Jonathon Riddle family quilts also will be highlighted. For this event, a bed is covered in a large number of quilts, one on top of the other. Each quilt is then “turned down” as it is discussed by a docent.
As always, there will be more than 250 judged quilts on display, along with a queen-sized quilt raffle, quilt appraisals and vendor booths.
Lunch is available both days and anniversary cake will be served.
You don’t need to be a Crazy Quilter or a quilter at all to enjoy this show. The quilts are works of art in their own right and can be appreciated for their color, texture, design and fine workmanship -- they’re sure to inspire you to find your own creative outlet.
