Blomgren's six hits highlight's Craig's opening day
The Cougars won the opener, 13-7, but dropped the nightcap, 6-5.
“Blomgren did a nice job in his varsity debut,” Craig coach Victor Herbst said.
Craig had 12 hits en route to winning the opener. Blomgren had three of those, including a triple. Troy Malmanger gained the victory in relief.
The Cougars held a 7-2 lead after two innings, but the Raccoons tied the game at 7-all with four runs in the fourth. Craig added six runs down the stretch to earn the victory.
In the second game, the Raccoons’ sophomore starting pitcher Josh Hottinger blanked the Cougars through the first four innings and Oconomowoc built a 3-0 lead.
Oconomowoc added single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh for a 6-2 lead. The Cougars rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh for the final outcome.
Blomgren had three of the Cougars’ nine hits, including a double.
“I thought it was a good day for the Cougars,” Herbst said. “I saw more good things then bad.’’
Craig hosts Madison West at 5 p.m. Tuesday in a Big Eight Conference opener at Riverside Park.
