Beloit City Council contemplates budget cuts to police and fire
The Beloit City Council may have a number of difficult budget decisions in the coming weeks.
The city's proposed budget is expected to be published Wednesday, and with it, the potential for deep cuts in the area of public safety. The cuts could include the elimination of six positions each for the police and fire departments. Council Vice President Jim Van de Bogart says with 2/3 of the city's budget going to public safety, it'll be difficult to protect positions.
Public hearings are planned for next month.
