— An autopsy report isn’t expected for several weeks in the death of infant twins who were discovered last week in the bathtub of their East Troy apartment.

Walworth County Coroner John Griebel said Monday that results of Friday’s autopsy still were pending, and the investigation into the children’s death is ongoing. The 11-month-old infants were found Thursday after another resident called police to the apartment at 1976 Church St., a few blocks north of the town square.

Officers used CPR but were unable to revive the children. They were transported to Waukesha Memorial Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Walworth County District Attorney Phillip Koss said his office has not received reports in the case. Paperwork could arrive later this week.

Police said the mother and two older children were at home on Thursday at the time the infants were in the tub. The older children were taken into custody by Walworth County social services.

Police have released few other details about the case and said nobody is in custody. Authorities on Friday spent several hours investigating the scene.

The state Department of Children and Families released public notification of the incident Friday, saying the children “allegedly drowned” in the bathtub. It classifies their death as “maltreatment.”

The department also is required by state law to issue a second report about three months after the incident was reported, disclosing details and findings of the investigation.
