DiStefano planning Janesville School Board run
Three seats could be contested April 3. Two board members, Lori Stottler and DuWayne Severson, have said they will not run again.
The third seat is held by Greg Ardrey, who is undecided about another three-year term.
DiStefano, 38, is a third-generation Janesvillian and a 1992 graduate of Craig High School. He serves on the school district's boundary lines committee, which recommended last summer that no elementary school be closed.
DiStefano holds a bachelor's degree in business administration. He is vice president for employee benefits at Tricor Insurance, an insurance sales and consulting business.
Tricor bid to be the school district's insurance consultant earlier this year, but the school board chose another bidder. DiStefano said he has no axes to grind and is willing to offer his experience and knowledge in employee benefits to help the district.
Tricor would not bid to get the district's business while he was on the school board, he said.
DiStefano said he was not running with any agenda other than to make decisions by putting the interests of the children first.
DiStefano and his wife, Heather, have two children at Harrison Elementary School. Heather is president of the school's parent teacher organization.
DiStefano encouraged other candidates to run.
Candidates can start circulating nomination petitions Thursday. They must collect 100 to 200 signatures and file nomination papers by Tuesday, Jan. 3, to be listed on the April 3 ballot.
Anyone interested in running should call Nancy Hewes, assistant board clerk, at (608) 743-5056.
