PELL LAKE -- Firefighters were called to the scene of a vacant house fire about 9:15 a.m. Thursday in Pell Lake. WATCH

The fire was called in by a neighbor, according to Walworth County Dispatch. Members of the Genoa City/Bloomfield Fire Department responded and reported smoke billowing from the windows when they arrived.

The home, located at 1278 Veronica on the south side of the lake, sustained significant damage. Flames could be seen shooting out of windows above the garage, and firefighters ripped through a section of the roof to gain access to the flames.

The fire was contained by about 10:40 a.m.

Emergency personnel from Fontana, Linn Township, Wonder Lake, Wheatland, Randall and Racine assisted in the effort.

Investigators remained on the scene Thursday to try and determine a cause.
