Clinton topples Turner, other scores

Clinton High used double-figure scoring from four players to advance in the WIAA Division 3 girls basketball tournament.


Senior guard Laura Popanz led the Cougars with 16 points, and Clinton defeated host Turner, 57-49, in a regional quarterfinal game Tuesday night.


The Cougars (11-12) play Rock Valley North champion Edgerton (19-3) in semifinal game Friday night at Edgerton. The winner faces Brodhead or Walworth Big Foot on Saturday at Clinton in a regional title game that leads to the Waunakee Sectional.


Olivia Nickel had 13 points, while freshmen Megan Lantz and Mallory Niemann contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively, to lead Clinton.


Megan Grover led Turner (10-12) with 14 points.

Big Foot (6-17) plays at Brodhead (15-7) on Friday night.


Brittani Isham added 13 points for the Chiefs, while Stephanie Aasen had 15 points for Parkview (9-14).

Alexa Wegner had 13 points to lead Jefferson.


Mallorie Phalin led Evansville (2-21) with 10 points.

DeNae Giese had 11 points to lead Palmyra-Eagle (0-23).
