Thompson earns first-team honors
UW-Whitewater’s Dana Thompson sat out most of the 2009-2010 women’s basketball season with a broken foot.
She made up for lost time this year.
Thompson earned first-team honors on the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference basketball team.
The senior center averaged 16.1 points, which was the second highest in the WIAC. Her 7.7-per game rebound average ranked eighth in the league.
She topped the WIAC in field-goal percentage at 59.5 percent, and was third in blocked shots with 1.56 per game.
Thompson is sixth in career scoring with 1,140 points, fifth in rebounds with 667, and eighth in blocked shots with 89. She tops the UW-Whitewater record book in career field-goal percentage at 57.4 percent, free throws attempted (635), and free throws made (399). Thompson’s 14 career double-doubles is tied for third in the UW-W record book.
Warhawk freshman guard Kaitlyn Thill earned one of the five spots on the All-Defensive squad.
Thill led the WIAC with a single-season school-record 109 steals, an average of 4.04 per game. Thill shattered the single-game steal record in her second collegiate game, swiping the ball 13 times against Wisconsin Lutheran on Nov. 20. Thill also contributed 8.3 points and a team best 3.0 assists per game in 2010-2011.
Whitewater senior forward Melissa Olsen earned a spot on the WIAC sportsmanship team, starting all 27 games thus far. Each team in the league picks one player for the Sportsmanship Team, in recognition of a league emphasis on sportsmanship.
UW-Whitewater is 21-6 overall. The Warhawks, who were ranked in both national polls all season, tied for second place during the WIAC regular season and finished second in the WIAC Tournament.
The Warhawks open NCAA Division III tournament play Friday.
