Kyle Johnson pitched six strong innings, and Riley Quinn delivered a key two-run, two-out single to lead Janesville past visiting Geneva/Genoa, 5-2, in American Legion baseball Tuesday night at Riverside Park.

The game was halted after Geneva/Genoa batted in the top of the sixth due to lightning.

Janesville went to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the Region 7 league.

Johnson allowed two earned runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out nine.

“Kyle pitched a nice game,” said Janesville coach Bob Schenck. “His off-speed pitches were working real well, and they kept them off-balanced.”

The visitors took a 2-0 lead in the third inning, but Janesville responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Quinn’s two-out single was the key hit. Tanner Moe and Dylan Hoskins also drove in a run for Janesville. Tyler Teubert scored twice.

Schenck also commended the play of the defense, which did not commit an error.

Janesville hosts Beloit in a 7 o’clock game tonight at Riverside. Beloit beat Janesville in last weekend’s Five-Star tournament.
