— Allyssa Ferrell of Edgerton finally got a leg up on Lindsay Danielson of Osecola here Tuesday at the Wisconsin State Women’s Open at SentryWorld.

Ferrell, a member of the Michigan State University golf team, shot a first-round 1-under-par 35-36—71 to hold a two-stroke lead over Danielson going into today’s final round.

While playing for Edgerton High, Ferrell chased Danielson in vain during Danielson’s 2008-09 WIAA Division 2 state championship run.

Milton High School graduate Ashton Stair, the reigning WIAA Division 1 state girls champion, shot a 6-over 38-40—78 on Tuesday and is in ninth place. Ferrell’s sister, Brooke, an Edgerton junior this fall, carded a 90 and is tied for 35th.

Carolyn Barnett-Howe of Appleton, a four-time State Open champion, opened with an 81. Three-time defending champion Malinda Johnson did not enter.
