— Neenah and Eau Claire North have advanced to the WIAA Division 1 state baseball finals at Shutout City.

That’s Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute, of course, but the losing teams going scoreless Tuesday in five of the tournament’s first six games made it look like the home of the shutout.

Appleton North finally broke through in the second game of the semifinals, but the Lightning dropped a 5-2 decision to Eau Claire North. That came after Neenah earned its spot in Thursday’s championship game by blanking Hartford, 10-0, in five innings.

Neenah also shutout Kenosha Bradford, 3-0, in the semifinals, and Appleton North reached the semifinals with a 11-0 shutout of Wausau West in five innings. Hartford topped Verona, 4-0, and Eau Claire North hammered Reedsburg, 11-0 in six innings, to complete quarterfinal set of four shutouts.

-- Neenah 10, Hartford 0—Neenah (20-8) batted around in the third and fourth innings, including three doubles in the third, to build a 9-0 lead in the Rockets’ five-inning semifinal blowout of Hartford (18-9).

Jake Stern pitched a three-hit shutout, allowing no walks, while Tyler Robers sparked the Neenah offense with three hits and four RBIs. Stern also drove in two runs.
