WALWORTH COUNTY -- A strong storm roared through Walworth County early Monday, downing trees, flattening at least one barn and knocking out power throughout the area.

The barn, which was used of storage and was nearly empty, blew over about 7:15 a.m. July 11, 2011, according to Elma Oberla, who owns the property at W9037 Creek Road where the barn once stood.

The barn is owned by Oberla's son, Dennis Truckenbrod, whose family also lives in the house next door.

Truckenbrod had just left for work in Delavan when the storm moved in to the area, but his wife, Marlys, and their two teenagers, Dana and Neil, where inside the home and watched as the barn began to sway and finally collapse.

The barn, built in 1938, was uninsured and mostly empty, except for a boat and a few other items stored inside.

A complete recap of Monday's storm is in today's Gazette.

In the city of Delavan, several large trees were toppled, causing traffic to be re-routed through the neighborhoods near downtown.

Crews were on the scene removing one large tree from Racine Street and another from Washington Street.

Heavy tree damage also was reported at Lake Lawn Resort, according to one witness.

On Whitewater Lake, water toys were strewn about and overturned by the high winds.
