Warhawks overcome early shooting woes

— UW-Whitewater overcame poor shooting in the first half to defeat Occidental College, 63-60, in nonconference men’s basketball here Monday for its fifth consecutive win.

The Warhawks shot 27 percent in the first half (11-40) and trailed 34-30. Occidental shot 62 percent (15-24), but the Warhawks grabbed 25 rebounds to the Tigers’ 15 to stay close.


Whitewater shook off the first-half blahs with a 13-0 run to open the second half to take the lead for good at 43-34.


Chris Davis scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to pace the Warhawks (9-4). Teammate Antone Byrd added 14 points.
