Union Grove wins with strong finish, other scores

Union Grove High School’s girls basketball team needed a big fourth quarter Tuesday night at Lake Geneva to protect its perfect Southern Lakes record.


The league-leading Broncos rolled to a 19-2 lead in the first quarter, but they were assured of a


56-44 victory over second-place Badger until they gained a 17-9 advantage in the final period.


Union Grove, No. 3 in the AP Division 2 state ratings, imroved to 8-0 in the conference and 14-1 overall. Badger fell to 6-3 and 11-5.


Alyssa Thomas scored 16 points, and Danielle Mutchie added 14 to lead Union Grove. Lana Wieseman had a game-high 22 points for Badger.

-- Elkhorn 65, Burlington 54—Emily Schahczinski scored 12 of her game-high 22 points in the first half as the Elks rolled to a 31-16 first-half lead in a Southern Lakes win at Burlington.


The win lifted the (7-9, 4-4) into a third-place tie with the Demons (5-10, 4-4) and Wilmot (8-7, 4-4).

Stephanie Rank scored 11 points and Alyssa Helwig added 10 for Waterford.
