Growel, Badgers upend Demons

Jacob Growel scored 21 points to lead Lake Geneva Badger past visiting Burlington, 53-46, and drop the Demons into a first-place tie in the Southern Lakes Conference with Union Grove on Thursday night.


Growel, a 6-foot-1 sophomore, made five of six free throws in the fourth quarter to help Badger pull away. The Badgers made 11 of 14 free throws in the final period.


Ian Weber added 15 points, including eight in the second quarter. Badger is 2-3 in the league and 2-6 overall.


Eric Gerber scored 14 points for Burlington, which fell to 4-1, 4-3.

Senior guard Grayson Catania scored 11 points as the Broncos improved to 4-1 in the league and 6-2 overall.


Senior forward Brent Newman scored 16 points for the Elks, who rallied from a 12-2 deficit at the end of the first quarter to get within 37-34 in the third. Elkhorn is 1-4 in the conference and 3-4 overall.
