UW-Whitewater basketball remains undefeated

— UW-Whitewater kept a pesky Illinois Wesleyan at arm’s length Wednesday for a 65-53 victory in nonconference college men’s basketball.

The Warhawks held a 27-17 lead with 3:46 remaining in the first half, but the visiting Titans clicked off an 11-0 run to take a 28-27 lead with 55 seconds to play. Whitewater inched back to a 31-28 lead at the half.


Whitewater broke away from a 49-46 second-half lead at 4:41 with a 10-0 run. The Warhawks kept a double-digit lead the rest of the way.


Warhawks’ senior center Chris Davis notched a double double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Alex Merg scored a game-high 16 points and Luke Noble added 11 points for Whitewater.


The victory lifts Whitewater to 5-0 overall. The Warhawks host UW-Stout at 6 p.m. Saturday in a WIAC opener.
