Starr plaque to be unveiled tonight
Bart Starr will honored again tonight at Monterey Stadium.
The legendary Green Bay Packers quarterback will not be present, as he was a year ago, but the Bart Starr bronze plaque will be unveiled during a short ceremony before the 7 o’clock football game between Janesville Craig and Janesville Parker. The plaque has been mounted in a concrete pedestal just the south of the stadium grandstand.
The plaque honors Starr’s professional football debut, which came in a Packer intrasquad game at Monterey Stadium on Aug. 4, 1956.
There also will be a Sept. 28 dedication of a Vince Lombardi plaque at the Janesville Performing Arts Center, commemorating Lombardi’s appearance there on Feb. 26, 1969. The auditorium was then Marshall Junior High, and the speech was billed as his last as a Packer and his first as a Washington Redskin.
As part of Janesville’s connection with the Lombardi, the Italian House will introduce its “Lombard Legend Sandwich,” a specially inspired creation that will be on sale through September as a tribute to the legendary coach. The sandwich will be available at the Monterey Stadium concession stand tonight.
