— Laura Yurs’ talent made her a qualified candidate. And simple geography made her an easy target.

Oh, she’s not complaining, because it’s for a worthy cause.

“I organized a silent auction for the Elkhorn Women’s Club, and was involved in other fundraising projects and got pretty good at it,” Yurs said. “Then my neighbors, the Raidls (Frank and Betty), asked if I would be interested in helping with the food pantry. I’m a member at Southern Lakes Evangelical Free (Church) and wanted to help in some way.”

She has become one of the many key players in the Raise the Roof campaign, a community drive and ecumenical church effort involving about a dozen congregations to renovate and support a new home for the Elkhorn Food Pantry ... CONTINUED
